Picture Post Card inscribed and signed: "To Jane/Sincerely/Mel Tillis". Color, 3¼x5¾. Country music legend Mel Tillis, who began his career as a songwriter in 1956, has recorded more than 60 albums, released 36 Top 10 singles (nine of them No. 1 hits) and been honored with numerous awards, including the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year, the Golden Voice Entertainer Award (2001) and the Golden R.O.P.E. Songwriter Award (2001), and he was named Songwriter of the Decade in 1999. Tillis, who has also been honored as a comedian, has written over 1,000 songs for such artists as Kenny Rogers ("Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town"), Bobby Bare ("Detroit City"), Brenda Lee ("Emotion"), George Strait ("Thoughts of a Fool") and Ricky Skaggs. The recipient of a Special Certificate of Achievement from BMI for three million broadcast performances of "Ruby, Don't Take Y our Love to Town", Tillis has also recorded gospel albums (releasing his first in 1993) and appeared on a number of television shows and in feature films, including W.W. & The Dixie Dancekings, Cannonball Run (I&II) and Smokey and the Bandit II.
