exchange for an original cartoon (not included).
Typed Letter signed: "Mell Lazarus", 1 page, 8½x11. Irvine,
California, 1980 June 27. On personal letterhead featuring "Momma" by the
telephone. To Jane Mendoza, Forest Hills, N.Y., in full: "Thank you
for your terrific letter: I have enclosed my autograph for your collection.
[Separate item not included.] In exchange for an original cartoon, I
customarily ask for a donation, in any amount, to a favorite charity of mine. A
check made out to Outreach - Menorah Village, and sent to the address
below, will start the ball rolling". Cartoonist Mell Lazarus was the
creator of Miss Peach (1957-2002), an elementary school teacher; and Momma
(since 1970), a meddlesome mother. Lazarus, President of the National
Cartoonists Society (1989-1993) had won the organization's Humor Comic Strip
Award twice in the 1970s (for Miss Peach). He won the Reuben Award for
Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year in 1982. Light paperclip impression in
upper left corner. Fine condition.
