Inscribed Photograph signed: "To Saul/Lanny Ross" and "To Saul/Sincerely/Ann Sothern", B/w 10x8. The 1934 film Melody In Spring was directed by Norman Z. Mcleod and released by Paramount Pictures. Ross played John Craddock and Sothern played Jane Blodgett. Lancelot Patrick "Lanny" Ross (1906-1988) began his career in the 1930s as a radio crooner, best known for singing "Moonlight and Roses". Over the next two decades, he would host the NBC radio show, Show Boat, appear on radio and TV versions of Your Hit Parade and host his own TV series, The Swift Show (1948). Ross also appeared in several feature films, including Yours Sincerely (1933), Melody in Spring (1934), College Rhythm (1934), The Lady Objects (1938), Gulliver's Travels (1939; animated, as the voice of Prince David), Stage Door Canteen (1943) and Banjo (1947). He later hosted an episode of The Bell Telephone Hour in 1962. Ann Sothern (1909-2001) was trained as a vocalist before making her film debut in her original name (Harriette Lake) in the early Warner sound musical, The Show of Shows (1929). After success on Broadway, she returned to Hollywood in 1933 and found her niche as a lighthearted heroine, especially in the role of Maisie Ravier, which she performed in ten films (1939-1947). Sothern also starred in two TV series: Private Secretary (1953-1957) and The Ann Sothern Show (1958-1961). She was nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actress for her last film, The Whales of August (1987). Lightly creased. Soiled. Worn at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
