MERV GRIFFIN
Publicity photograph for Griffin's popular talk and variety show.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Freda/Best Always,/Merv Griffin".
B/w, 8x10. Captioned at lower margin: "Our Man on Broadway/The Merv
Griffin Show". Singer, band leader, actor and talk show host Merv Griffin
(1925-2007) launched The Merv Griffin Show, a daily hour-long NBC
talk show, in 1962, beginning his long foray into the chat-show world. He
voluntarily called it quits in 1986. That same year, Griffin sold his Merv
Griffin Enterprises to Coca-Cola for a whopping $250 million. The enterprise
included two of TV's most popular game shows, Wheel of Fortune and
Jeopardy, which he created (and for which he retained a portion of the
profits). After retiring from the small screen, Griffin became a real estate
mogul, acquiring the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills and several other hotels.
Lightly creased at blank margins and corners. Minor surface creases (most not
evident head on). Paper clip impressions at upper left background. Overall, fine
condition.
