MERVIN F. ROBERTS - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED 07/03/1999 - HFSID 257190
Price: $180.00
MERVIN F. ROBERTS. Autograph Letter signed: "Merv", 1p,
8½x11. No place, 1999 July 3. To "Dear Ev and Herb", in full:
"Edith and I are well and about to embark on a world trip with a stop in
Northern Thailand to see a granddaughter ride a two-wheeled bike and then to
Kerala India to be the heavy for a Catholic Bishop whose own laymen are scheming
to milk American charity money - for a change. This is a subsistence farming
women's project - tilapia with duck eggs on the side. In April I did a one week
salmon farm feasibility study for David Rockefeller as I approached the age of
99. Jimmy Atz & I had a chat the other day and reminded each other that Herb
had a birthday on June 7. We also reminded each other that you treated both of
us kindly and we are grateful, even 50 years later. We also reminded each other
how much we admired Ev. I tried to reach you by telephone for Herb's birthday
but never got through. Best wishes to you both." Written on verso of a
typed letter with printed signature of David Rockefeller, dated 1999 May 4,
thanking Roberts for his expert advice on an application for an Atlantic salmon
lease site. MERVIN F. ROBERTS is a prolific author of books about
selection and care of exotic pets: iguanas, hermit crabs, many kinds of
birds, and many other species. He was Conservation Commissioner and Selectman in
Old Lyme, Connecticut. David Rockefeller (b. 1915), the only surviving
grandson of oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller, and the last of six influential
sibling Rockefellers of his generation, which included New York Governor and
Vice President Nelson Rockefeller. David Rockefeller was President of Chase
Manhattan Bank from 1960, and CEO from 1969-1980. Under his leadership, Chase
Manhattan achieved a global reach, including a branch at One Karl Marx Square in
Moscow. One of the world's most influential "globalists", Rockefeller was a
founder of the Trilateral Commission (1973) and honorary chairman of the
World Affairs Council. He has given nearly one billion dollars to
charities, mostly ones bearing the Rockefeller name, in his lifetime, and
bequeathed a founding grant for the David Rockefeller Global Development Fund.
