Actress Meryl Streep (b. 1949) made her screen, Broadway, and Off-Broadway debuts in the mid-1970s and has earned dozens of major award nominations since then across all three industries. While she has predominantly performed on the big screen, she received a Primetime Emmy Award for her work in the 1978 mini-series Holocaust. On stage, Streep more often performs Off-Broadway than on Broadway. She received an Obie Award in 1981 for Alice in Concert (1980-1981). Streep's Broadway work includes A Memory of Two Mondays / 27 Wagons Full of Cotton (1976). Her first major film role came in Michael Cimino's breakthrough directorial effort The Deer Hunter (1978), which starred Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken. She received her first Golden Globe nomination and her first Academy Award nomination for her performance; since then, she has received many more. Her Oscar Award wins include Best Actress for Sophie's Choice (1982) and The Iron Lady (2011), while her Golden Globe wins include Best Performance in Julie & Julia (2009) and Best Actress in The French Lieutenant's Woman (1981). Other notable film roles include Out of Africa (1985), The Hours (2002), and The Devil Wears Prada (2006). In 1998, she was honored with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
