Michael Strange sends a typed letter to her bank about two promissory notes she wrote to Esther J. Willcox.
Typed Letter signed: "(Signed) Michael Strange", 1p, 8½x11. New York, New York, 1929 March 13. To The Harriman National Bank, New York City, New York. In full: "Dear Sirs: I inclose [sic] copies of two notes [not present] made by me, each in the sum of $875.01, to the order of Esther J. Willcox, and payable to the Harriman National Bank on April 1, 1929 and July 2, 1929, Respectively, Unless you receive notice in the meantime to the contrary, either directly from me or through my attorneys, Messrs. Rushmore, Bisbee & Stern, 20 Pine Street, New York City, you will please pay such notes if presented on their due dates and charge the amount of the same to my account. It may be that certain payments will be made on account of these notes prior to their due dates, in which case I or my counsel will advise you. In addition the amount of any such payments will be indorsed on the backs of said notes, so that when presented for payment the amount payable will be the face amount less the aggregate of such payments on account prior to maturity. Poet, playwright and actress Blanche Marie Louise Oelrichs (1890-1950) used the pen and stage name Michael Strange. A real estate heiress and debutante active in the women's suffrage movement, she published her first book, Miscellaneous Poems, in 1916. The second of her three husbands was stage and silent film star John Barrymore. Actress Diana Barrymore was their daughter. Strange's first Broadway play, Claire de Lune (1921), starred John and Ethel Barrymore. In 1936, Strange commenced a popular New York City radio program of poetry and music, eventually accompanied by a full orchestra. She also spoke on lecture tours.
