1979, United Artists Corporation. The movie based on Crichton's novel was set in
1855 and filmed in Ireland. It featured Sean Connery, Donald Sutherland and
Wayne Sleep as three British conspirators attempting the first hold-up of a
moving train that carried a shipment of gold bars intended as payroll in the
Crimean War. Michael Crichton's (1942-2008) other novels include The
Andromeda Strain, The Terminal Man and Jurassic Park, made
into one of the biggest film moneymakers of all time. A distinguished medical
scholar, he also served as the technical advisor for the top-rated NBC series
