MICHAEL DOUGLAS AGREES TO AN AGREEMENT FOR HIS FATHER, KIRK DOUGLAS, TO APPEAR IN INHERIT THE WIND

MICHAEL DOUGLAS.

In letter form to Bryna Company, Los Angeles, California, regarding an arrangement between the company and ITW Productions, Inc. for the services of Kirk Douglas in a made-for-TV movie. In part: "The following will confirm the agreement between you and us relative to your furnishing to us the services of KIRK DOUGLAS (hereinafter referred to as 'Player') as herein provided: 1. You agree to furnish the services of the Player as an actor on the television motion picture of no more than one hundred twenty (120) minutes in broadcast duration presently entitled 'INHERIT THE WIND'...it is understood and agreed that we are engaging you to furnish Player's services, and to grant the rights stated as granted...It is understood that the credit, if any, to be accorded Player pursuant to the terms of Exhibit '1' shall be accorded to Player personally and that you shall receive no such credit in your capacity as lender or otherwise...We shall pay you the compensation as set forth in Exhibits '1' and '2' [not present]...You hereby represent, warrant and agree that you are free to enter into this agreement...You represent, warrant and agree that you are a party to the Screen Actors Guild Basic Agreement...We shall have all rights and remedies against Player which we would have if Player had entered into Exhibit '1' directly with us as our employee...." Also signed by a representative of ITW Productions, Inc. KIRK DOUGLAS played Matthew Harrison Brady in the 1987 made-for-TV movie, Inherit the Wind. In 1997, MICHAEL DOUGLAS, Kirk's son, appeared in two blockbuster feature films, Fatal Attraction and Wall Street, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. Major star, prominent producer and member of one of Hollywood's most prominent families, Michael Douglas is one of Hollywood's biggest movers and shakers. In 1975, Douglas became one of the hottest producers in Tinseltown when he produced Milos Forman's tour de force adaptation of Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. The result: a box-office smash that earned five Academy Awards, including the Best Picture Oscar. In 1984, Douglas appeared in Romancing the Stone, an offbeat romantic adventure in the vein of Indiana Jones. It was a major box-office hit and revitalized Douglas' acting career. Some of his later films include The Jewel of the Nile, War of the Roses, Basic Instinct, The American President, A Perfect Murder, Wonder Boys and Don't Say a Word. The son of actors Kirk and Diana Douglas, Michael has been married to his second wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, since 2000. Slightly creased. One-inch tear at lower blank margin of first page, which also has ¼-inch nick at upper blank margin. Staple holes at upper left corners, light paper clip rust stain at mid-left margin of first page, light paper clip impression at blank right margin of signature page. Overall, fine condition.
