MICHAEL GRANT
He signs the front of a program for an Atlantic City Night of Young Heavyweights II, with his bout with Obed Sullivan the headline fight. The boxer adds a Biblical quotation to his signature.
Program signed: "Michael Grant/Eph 5:20", 19 pages, 8¼x11. Signed beneath his image on the cover of the program for Night of Young Heavyweights II, Boardwalk Convention Center, May 30, 1998. The Michael Grant-Obed Sullivan fight is the headliner. Michael Grant (b. 1972) was a good enough high school pitcher to attract the interest of the KC Royals, and he was a towering collegiate defensive end until sidelined by poor grades. His pro boxing career got off to a roaring start, with 36 straight victories, including a 9th Round TKO over Obed Sullivan in the fight shown here. His streak led to a heavyweight title bout, but ended there in Madison Square Garden (April 2000) when Lennox Lewis knocked him out in the second round. Grant finally won a heavyweight belt (the WBF) by defeating South Africa's Francois Botha in November 2011. As of early 2013, his record stands at 48-4, with 36 knockouts. Ephesians 5:20 reads, "Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ". Corners lightly worn. Fine condition.
