Signature: "Michael/Whalen" in pencil, 5¾x4¼ yellow album leaf 1¼x1¾ newspaper photo affixed to right side (2 surfaces). Whalen (1902-1974, born Joseph Kenneth Shovlin in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania) was an American actor with over 70 movies and TV shows to his credit between 1935 and 1961. Whalen was a manager of a Woolworths as well as a radio and vaudeville singer before entering films in 1935. He was a leading man at 20th Century-Fox, with probably his best role from this period as Coppy in Wee Willie Winkie (1937). He became a character actor by the 1940s and, by 1954, was seen almost exclusively on TV, including multiple episodes of The Lone Ranger, Tombstone Territory and Highway Patrol. Soiled.
