CARDINAL MICHELE GIORDANO
The Italian religious figure who served as Cardinal-Priest for
eighteen years signs this photograph in black ink
Photograph signed: "+ Hon. Card. Giordano" in black ink. 3¾x5¾
mounted on 5½x8¼ card. Michele Giordano (1930-2010) was an Italian
Archbishop of Naples and a Cardinal-Priest. He was ordained to the
priesthood on July 5, 1953. Giordano served from 1953-1971 successively in the
diocese of Anglona-Tursi as pastor. He was made Chaplain of His Holiness on
23 February 1968. In 1971 Pope Paul VI named him as the Titular Bishop of
Lari Castello and the Auxiliary Bishop of Matera, and, in 1974, as the
Archbishop of Matera. The title was eventually renamed as the Roman
Catholic Archdiocese of Matera-Irsina. He obtained the title of Metropolitan
Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Naples in 1987. The following
year John Paul II created him Cardinal-Priest of San Gioacchino ai Prati di
Castello, where he served until his retirement in 2006. Corners slightly
