MICKEY GILLEY
Captioned publicity photo of the country singer, signed and inscribed to a fan
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Tim/From/Mickey/Gilley". B/w, 8x10. Captioned at lower blank margin "Mickey Gilley Epic". Country singer/entrepreneur Mickey Gilley is best known for founding Gilley's Club, the most famous country nightclub in the world, which was immortalized in the 1980 film, Urban Cowboy, starring John Travolta. Three years before the filming, Gilley was broadcasting a weekly national radio show from his club in Pasadena, Texas. The program, which ran until the club closed in 1989, featured a virtual "Who's Who" of country music stars and is credited with introducing a nationwide audience (listening to over 500 stations) to the country sound. "Live from Gilley's" was also heard around the world, thanks to Armed Forces Radio. Open seven nights a week, Gilley's boasted 40 pool tables, pinball machines and a Texas-sized dance floor in addition to its famous mechanical bull. Today, Gilley, who charted 17 No. 1 country hits, including the honky-tonk classic, "A Headache Tomorrow (Or A Heartache Tonight)", continues to perform at his theater in Branson, Missouri. Light adhesive residue on verso (slight show through at corners). Fine condition.
