MICKEY HARGITAY and ART LINKLETTER. Signatures: "Mickey Hargitay", 3¾x2¾ sheet, affixed to 5¾x4½. Affixed on verso: "Art Linkletter", 3¾x2¾. Ink captions at bottom of each side date signatures from 1959. MICKEY HARGITAY (1926-2006), born Miklos Hargitay in Budapest, became a bodybuilder and won the Mr. Universe title in 1955. He then joined Mae West's stage show, where he was seen by actress Jayne Mansfield (1933-1967). Despite West's efforts to break up the couple, they were married in January 1958. The couple made several films together, including Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? (1958), The Loves of Hercules (1960, with Hargitay in the title role) and Promises! Promises! (1963). Hargitay and Mansfield were divorced in August 1964. In August 1967, Mansfield died in a car accident en route to a nightclub appearance. In September 1967, Hargitay sued his wife's estate for $275,000 in child support. The couple had three children: two sons and a daughter. Their daughter, Mariska Hargitay (whom actor Nelson Sardelli claimed to have fathered), became an actress. Mickey appeared on her successful TV series, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, in 2003. Radio broadcaster, television personality and author ART LINKLETTER (born Arthur Gordon Kelly in 1912) hosted House Party, television's longest-running daytime variety show, on CBS from 1952-1969. The candid, often surprising responses from his interviews with youngsters on the show led to a series of Kids Say the Darndest Things books. He also hosted Inside Bevery Hills (1955) and The Art Linkletter Show (1963). More recently, Linkletter returned to television in a 1998 production of Kids Say the Darndest Things, which he co-hosted with fellow Bill Cosby. Printed numbers show through faintly at Linkletter signature. Album leaf lightly creased and soiled. File holes at blank right margin. Overall, fine condition.
