MICKEY HARGITAY
A passionate letter written from the body builder to actress and former wife Jayne Mansfield a year before her tragic car accident, stating "I love you more than life" and "I just can't wait to see you!". Hargitay was trying to win Jayne back; she was married to another man when he wrote this letter. A very rare and touching handwritten letter, accompanied by a candid photo of them together!
Autograph letter signed: "Mickey", 1 page, 7¼x10¼. Accompanied by an unsigned, candid b/w photo of Hargitary (seated) with Mansfield, in the company of an unidentified man. Mickey Hargitay. April 22, 1966. Roma, Italy. In full: "Jaynie my love! I'm happy! What a change in my life, I have something so beautiful to look forward to. I'm constantly with you. You don't lieve [sic] my mind for a second, but my days have become so long my love, I just can't wait to see you! Jaynie it is the greatest feeling what I have for you. I love you more than life. Please forgive darling write me and tell me where you will be and how long exactly I'm so lonesome for you. I want to know all about you and we must find time to see each other my love. I just can't tell you Jaynie my love, you are the greatest. I want to hold you just once more and I will never let you go my beautiful sweet love. Please hurry I just can't wait until you call me, write to me and tell me you care. I love you with all your kids forever and moooore!!" MICKEY HARGITAY (1926-2006), born Miklos Hargitay in Budapest, became a bodybuilder and won the Mr. Universe title in 1955. He then joined Mae West's stage show, where he was seen by actress JAYNE MANSFIELD (1933-1967). Despite West's efforts to break up the couple, they were married in January 1958. The couple made several films together, including Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? (1958), The Loves of Hercules (1960, with Hargitay in the title role) and Promises! Promises! (1963). With this love letter, Hargitay was trying to win Mansfield back. Jayne's marriage to Hargitay, her second, lasted from 1958 to 1964, resulting in 3 children. One month after her divorce from Hargitay became final (August 1964), she remarried Matt Cimber, and had another child (her fifth). By the date of this letter, Mansfield's third marriage was on the rocks; she would divorce Cimber in July 1966. Hargitay's assurance that he still loved her "with all your kids forever" would have been important to Jayne. In August 1967, Mansfield died in a car accident en route to a nightclub appearance. In September 1967, Hargitay sued his wife's estate for $275,000 in child support. The couple had three children: two sons and a daughter. Their daughter, Mariska Hargitay (whom actor Nelson Sardelli claimed to have fathered), became an actress. Mickey appeared on her successful TV series, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, in 2003. Light creasing on corners. Normal mailing folds. Fine condition.
