MICKEY SPILLANE
The hard-boiled crime writer signs his typed quote commenting on the women's
movement.
Typed Quotation signed: "Mickey Spillane", 1p, 8½x11. Typed heading:
"Excerpt from 'The Mystery Man' by Carey Winfrey", quoting Spillane in Memories
Magazine, April/May 1990. In full: "The women's movement only
represents certain people. Women are still women. There are those who want to be
on a par with men - equality. What people forget, women aren't equal to men, men
aren't equal to women. The word equal means to be the same, and they're not the
same. They're apples and oranges." Frank Morrison "Mickey" Spillane
(1918-2006) created his hard-boiled detective hero, Mike Hammer, in the first of
seven Hammer novels, I, the Jury (1947). In a 1967 list of the
best-selling novels of 1895-1965, seven of the top 29 were novels by
Spillane. The versatile author, who has been everything from a flight
instructor to a human cannonball, also appeared in films, starring as Mike
Hammer in Ring of Fear and The Girl Hunter (1963). In 1995,
the Mystery Writers of America honored him with their Grand Master
award. Fine condition.
