MIGHTY JOE YOUNGMOVIE CAST: BEN JOHNSON and TERRY MOORE
Both signers are shown in a 10x8 still from the film.
Photograph signed: "Ben Johnson", "Terry Moore". B/w 10x8. Movie still from Mighty Joe Young. Signed by both actors in black felt tip. Mighty Joe Young ((1949) featured the same producer, director, writer and special effects man as its famous predecessor, King Kong, and even one of the same leads (Robert Armstrong). It was a more light-hearted film than Kong, however, aimed in part at a younger audience. Promotional caption on verso refers to the film as "Mr. Joseph Young of Africa." The winner of the 1971 Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Sam the Lion in The Last Picture Show, BEN JOHNSON (1918-1996) was a former ranch hand and rodeo performer before starting in films as a wrangler, stuntman and double for such stars as John Wayne, Gary Cooper and James Stewart. After being cast in Mighty Joe Young, Rio Grande (1950) and Wagon Master (1950), Johnson left Hollywood to return to the rodeo in 1953, but soon returned to movies, appearing in more than 300 films over his career. The star of such films as Shane (1953), Cheyenne Autumn (1964), The Wild Bunch (1969), Chisum (1970), The Sugarland Express (1974) and Radio Flyer (1992), Johnson was also an early TV performer, appearing on shows, primarily Westerns, from 1956-1986. Graduating from adolescent roles, TERRY MOORE (b. 1929) had starring parts in films of the fifties and sixties. She scored a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for Come Back, Little Sheba (1952). Other major film roles included Mighty Joe Young and King of the Khyber Rifles (1953). In 1957, she played both Pat Boone's girl friend (in Bernadine) and town slut Betty Anderson in Peyton Place. In 1989, she wrote, co-produced and starred in Beverly Hills Brat. Moore made headlines off the screen, too. Claiming to have been secretly married in 1949 to multi-billionaire Howard Hughes and never divorced, she sued the Hughes estate, settling out of court for an undisclosed sum. Right edge creased and lightly soiled. Lightly creased, most not visible head-on. Otherwise, fine condition.
