MIGUEL LLOBET
Inscribed signature of the Spanish guitarist, on a 3½x5½ postcard showing the Abbey of
Montserrat
Picture Postcard inscribed and signed in Spanish: "Para el señor D./Francisco Ruiz Estereich/M.
Llobet/Salinas 14 Oct. 1918". Sepia, 3½x5½. Postcard pictures a portion of the Benedictine
Abbey of Montserrat, in Catalonia. Spanish classical guitarist Miguel Llobet Solés
(1878-1938)) gave his first public performance in Valencia (1901), and performed for the
Spanish Royal Family two years later. Living for a time in Paris (1905-1910), he proved very
popular there, and he toured widely in Europe and the Americas. He composed original
works, and also arranged Catalan folk songs for guitar. His pupils included Andres Segovia. It's
probably not that he died in the bombardment of his native Barcelona, but grief over the city's
distress probably hastened his death. Toned. Corners rounded. Otherwise, fine condition.
