MIGUEL LOPEZ PUMAREJO
The Colombian government official who represented his country in Washington, District of Columbia, signed this index card
Signatures: "Miguel Lopez Pumarejo" and one unidentified signer in black ink. 6x4. Stamped with a “Legacion de Colombia” circular emblem. Miguel Lopez Pumarejo (1892-1976) was a government official who was the brother of two-time Colombian President Alfonso Lopez Pumarejo. Alfonso served as President from 1934-1938, and then from 1942-1945. Miguel was the Colombian foreign envoy to the United States from 1935 until 1938. That year, he was appointed to be the permanent ambassador to the country's North American neighbor, an elevated post that he served in until November 1939. He was replaced in 1939 by Gabriel Turbay Abunader. From 1940-1941, Lopez Pumarejo was the Minister of the National Economy of Colombia, replacing Jorge Gartner. In this latter position, he fulfilled this office under President Eduardo Santos. A few years later in 1944, Lopez Pumarejo represented Colombia at the Bretton Woods Conference alongside Finance Minister Carlos Lleras Restrepo. Unidentified second signature merits further research. Toned. Paperclip impression in top left corner.  Otherwise, fine condition.
