MIKE ANDREWS
Signed baseball card, shown in Red Sox uniform
Sports Card signed: "Mike Andrews". Color, 3½x2½. Topps baseball card #406 for 1970. Career Major and minor league batting record printed on verso. Second baseman Mike Andrews (b. 1943) played for the Boston Red Sox (1966-1970) and Chicago White Sox (1971-1973), before completing the 1973 season with the Oakland A's. He appeared in two World Series: 1967 with Boston, and 1973 with Oakland. He was the center of a major controversy in the 1973 Series. Suffering from a bad back, he committed errors on two consecutive plays in Game 2, prompting eccentric owner Charlie Finley to put try to put him on the disabled list. The team rallied around Andrews, and manager Dick Williams (who had also been Andrews' manager on the 1967 Sox), quit in protest after the Series, which Oakland won. Baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn fined Finley, and Andrews later sued him, but Andrews never played another Major League game. He finished his baseball career in Japan. Edges and corners lightly creased. Lightly toned. Otherwise fine condition.
