MIKE REID
Signed b/w photo of comedian Mike Reid on stage in an open-collared tux, glasses and necklace and holding a microphone
Photograph signed "Mike/Reid" in blue ink. B/w, 7¾x10 overall, 7¼x8¾ image, one surface. Captioned: "Mike Reid". Photo by Tony Lewis Entertainments, London, England. Gravelly-voiced and Cockney-accented comedian and actor Reid (1940-2007) is probably best remembered as Frank Butcher from EastEnders (1988-2000, 2002 and 2005). Reid got his start as a cruise ship comedian in the early 1960s, breaking into TV as an extra in the 1965 Doctor Who episode Death of a Spy and into movies as an uncredited extra and stuntman. Reid's big break came in 1971 on The Comedians, and he capitalized on his success here with his novelty song The Ugly Duckling, which peaked inside the Top 10 on the British Top 50 Singles chart. In all, Reid has acting credits on over 30 movies and TV shows, including hosting duties on the kids' quiz show Runaround (1975-1981) and recurring roles as Benny Briggs on Yus My Dear (1976) and Vince Holloway on Noah's Castle (1980). Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Signature has low contrast in places but is legible. Light impressions on image, (not visible head-on). Otherwise in fine condition.
