MILBURN STONE
Shown as Gunsmoke's "Doc" in this inscribed and signed 8x10
photo
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Virginia Picoulas/'Doc'/Milburn
Stone". B/w, 8x10. Milburn Stone (1904-1980), a former vaudevillian who made
his film debut in 1934 in Burn 'Em Up Barnes, is best known for his
role as Dr. Galen "Doc" Adams in the long-running Western, Gunsmoke
(1955-1975). In 1968, he won the Emmy for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in
a Supporting Role in a Drama (Gunsmoke episode "Baker's
Dozen") and he was also nominated for a Golden Globe in 1971 for his role
as "Doc". Only Stone and James Arness, who starred as Marshall Matt Dillon,
remained in the cast for the show's entire twenty seasons (approximately 500
episodes); Amanda Blake, who played "Miss Kitty" Russell, the owner of the Long
Branch Saloon, left after 19 years. Lightly creased, rippled at lower margin.
Surface striations (most not evident head-on) touch writing. 3 file nicks at
blank left edge. Mounting remnants and stains on verso (no show-through).
Overall, fine condition.
