MILDRED LEE
Daughter of General Robert E. Lee
Autograph Letter signed: "Mildred Lee", 2p (integral leaf), 5x8. To "My dear Mrs. Letcher", in full: "Thank you so much for that delicious ice cream, and especially for thinking of me. The pitcher was cracked when the boy brought it. I hope it has been so for a long time, & did not occur in coming to me! The worsted Cousin Markie asked me to return to Miss May - also the towells. Dear Mrs. Letcher won't you wear the collar & cap for Momma's sake - they were hers & I know you will value them on that account. Always most affectionately yours". Mildred Childe Lee (1846-1905) was the youngest child of Confederate General Robert E. Lee, named after his sister and nicknamed "Precious Life" by the General. Her mother, Mary Anne Randolph Custis Lee, apparently deceased when this letter was written, died in 1873, three years after her husband. None of Robert E. Lee's daughters married. Paper separation up to ¾-inch of both horizontal folds. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
