MILO PERKINS
The official who was in charge of the Board of Economic Warfare signed this
typed letter
Typed Letter Signed: “Milo Perkins” in black ink. 8x10½. One page. Dated
March 20, 1942. Letterhead from the Board of Economic Warfare, a department
of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's “War Cabinet”. His War Cabinet also
included the Economic Defense Board and the Supply Priorities and Allocation
Board. In Full: “Okay, I can add this little bit to your collection. As for Donald
Nelson, I don't know what you can do except to write a letter to his office. The
President is carrying such tremendous responsibilities that nobody in Washington
would dream of adding one unnecessary chore to his days”. Milo Perkins ran the
Board of Economic Warfare after being brought into the position by Vice
President Henry Wallace. Perkins and Commerce Secretary Jesse Jones
frequently clashed over responsibilities as their jobs overlapped occasionally.
Bureaucracies were created out of the New Deal and then adjusted due to the
war, and the BEW was one of them. Light creasing. Otherwise, fine condition.
