MILT PAPPAS The talented right-hander pens his name on this sports card in which he sports a Braves uniform Trading/Sports Card signed: "Milt Pappas" Color, 2½x3½. Topps card no. 576 for 1970. Career records through 1969 printed on verso. Milt Pappas (1939-2016) was a starting pitcher with the Baltimore Orioles (1957-1965) and then with three National League teams:  the Reds, the Braves and the Cubs from 1966 to 1973. His wins were in double digits 11 consecutive years, and he made the AL All-Star team twice. He pitched a no-hitter for the Cubs in 1972, walking what would have been the 27th out (and a perfect game) on two very close calls by the umpire. Unfortunately, Pappas is famed among baseball fans as the weak side of one of the worst trades in baseball history. Future Hall of Fame outfielder Frank Robinson was the AL MVP and led Baltimore to a world championship the year he was traded from Cincinnati for Pappas and two minor players. (Susan Sarandon mentions the trade in the 1988 movie Bull Durham.) Pappas, never one to shy away from an argument, notes that his career won-lost record was almost identical to that of Hall of Fame pitcher Don Drysdale (Pappas 209-164; Drysdale 209-166). Fine condition.
