MINNESOTA TWINS (1982)Key signers here would boost the team from its last place finish in '82 to a World Championship just five years later. In all 25 signers. Baseball signed: "Bill Gardner" (as manager, in the sweet spot), "Bobby Mitchell", "Jim Lemon",  "Ron Washington",  "John Pacella", "Bobby Castillo", "Randy Johnson", "Paul Boris", "Bradley Havens",  "Mickey Hatcher",  "Greg Wells", "Randy Bush",  "Kent Hrbek",  "Tim Laudner",  "Jack O'Connor", "Frank Viola", "Pete Redfern", "John Castino", "Albert Williams", "Rich Stelmaszek",  "Tom Brunansky", "Jeff Little", "Gary Gaetti", "Sal Butera",  and 1 unidentified signer. In all 25 signers. Rawlings Official American League Baseball, Lee MacPhail, President. Ink note (unknown hand): "1982 Twins." The 1982 Minnesota Twins finished 60-102, the worst record the club has had in the half century since it moved to the Twin Cities. (As the Washington Senators, the franchise had endured many seasons worse than that.) There was hope for Twins fans, however. The team would begin an ascent to a World Championship just five years later (1987), and another in 1991, with several of the signers here earning World Series rings. Signers here include Manager BILL GARDNER, batting coach JIM LEMON (a former star with the Senators) and bullpen coach RICH STELMASZEK, who would spent a quarter century as a Twins coach. Among the players who start for the team in its 1987 championship year were pitching ace FRANK VIOLA, catcher TIM LAUDNER, first baseman KENT HRBEK, third baseman GARY GAETTI, and right fielder TOM BRUNANSKY. RANDY BUSH and SAL BUTERA would also be on that roster. In 1982, everyday players included second sacker JOHN CASTINO, left and center fielders GARY WARD and BOBBY MITCHELL and designated hitter RANDY JOHNSON (not the pitcher of later years). The starting rotation is fully represented here by BOBBY CASTILLO, BRAD HAVENS, ALBERT WILLIAMS and JACK O'Connor, as well as Viola. A nice collection for a Twins fan, or an admirer of turnaround baseball franchises. Lightly toned. Multiple signatures light but legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
