Miriam Hopkins (1902-1972, born Ellen Miriam Hopkins in Savannah, Georgia) was an American actress with over 50 movies and TV shows to her credit between 1928 and 1969. Hopkins trained to be a ballerina, but a broken ankle turned her attention to acting. She received her start on the stage, turning in 17 Broadway appearances between 1921 and 1959, more often than not playing Southern belles. She had notable performances in 1933's Jezebel at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre and her final Broadway appearance as a replacement for Jo Van Fleet in Look Homeward Angel (1957-1959). She broke into film in the 1928 short The Home Girl and turned memorable performances in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931) and Becky Sharp (1935). Lightly toned. Lightly worn at edges and corners. Newspaper article on verso (light show through at upper left. Typed notes at upper and lower edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
