MISCHA AUER. Carbon Partly Printed DS: "Mischa Auer" as Artist in ink, 2p, 8½x14, front and verso. Beverly Hills, California, 1958 October 15. Auer employs the William Morris Agency as his exclusive Agent for a period of one year (October 15, 1958-October 14, 1959) at a commission of ten percent.Also signed by an Agent for the William Morris Agency, Inc. In the year he signed this contract, the Russian-born actor appeared in the French films, À Pied, à Cheval et en Spoutnik (A Dog, a Mouse and a Sputnik, in which he played a professor), Le Tombeur (The Ladykiller) and Tabarin. During the term of this contract, he also appeared on The Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse (January 1959). Mischa Auer (1905-1967) was cast in his early films as a sinister foreigner until his comic talents were recognized in My Man Godfrey (1936), for which he was nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor. Other popular films featuring Auer include You Can't Take It With You (1938, in which he popularized the phrase, "Confidentially, it stinks!), Destry Rides Again (1939) and Hellzapoppin' (1941). Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Staple holes at upper left corner, 2 file holes at upper blank margin. "Agent's Copy" stamped at upper left margin of first page. Overall, fine condition.
