Misery (1990) was based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. It starred Caan as author Paul Sheldon and Bates as Annie Wilkes, the "number one fan" of his Misery Chastaine series of novels. Wilkes rescues Sheldon from a car crash and keeps him a prisoner in her house after she hears that Sheldon plans to stop writing Misery novels. Bates won an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance as Wilkes and launched her to movie stardom. An accomplished theater actor who saw many of her best stage roles, such as Night Mother, Crimes of the Heart and Frankie and Johnny in the Clare de Lune, go to other actresses on the screen, KATHY BATES, born in 1948, won the Best Actress Academy Award for Misery (1990). She has since earned acclaim in such films as Fried Green Tomatoes (1992), Primary Colors (1998) and About Schmidt (2002). JAMES CAAN, born in 1940, shot to fame thanks to a poignant performance in the 1970 television movie Brian's Song, in which he played the ill-fated Chicago Bears star Brian Piccolo; his turn as the similarly ill-fated Sonny Corleone in Coppola's 1972 masterpiece The Godfather solidified his stardom and earned him an Academy Award nomination. Some of Caan's other films include The Godfather, Part 2 (1974), Funny Lady (1975), Rollerball (1975), Thief (1981), Misery (1990) and Honeymoon in Vegas (1992). Caan starred on the NBC television series Las Vegas from 2003 to 2007. Lightly scuffed and creased. Light impression and scuff marks from disc. Lightly scratched on cover (not visible head-on). Adhesive residue near top edge. Tape residue inside cover. Rounded corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
