MISTINGUETT
A rare signature from the French entertainer, once the highest paid
female entertainer in the world
Autograph sentiment signed: "Souvenir de/Mistinguett/Paris
1930", in blue ink, 5½x3½. Mistinguett (1875-1956), born Jeanne Florentine Bourgeois, was once the highest paid female
entertainer in the world. Aspiring to be an entertainer as a child,
Mistinguett sang ballads as she sold flowers on the street, and later began
taking classes in theatre and singing. She made her entertainment debut as
Mistinguett at the Casino de Paris in 1895, and appeared in several more
venues, including the Folies Bergère, Moulin Rouge and Eldorado. Mistinguett
was admired for her beauty and her risqué routines, at one time having her legs
insured for 500,000 francs. Mistinguett also recorded the popular single
"Mon Homme", which has been revamped several times as "My Man" in pop and jazz.
Corners lightly worn. Pencil notes (unknown hand). Small ink stain in 'souvenir'
of signature. Toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
