Inscribed signature on a 4x3 card
Inscribed Signature: "To Kayo/Best Wishes/Mitchell Ayres", 4½x3 card. Violinist Mitchell Ayres (1910-1969) fronted the Fashions in Music, a ballroom orchestra active from the mid-1930s to mid-1940s. The band specialized in novelty songs and in swing versions of the classics. The band's biggest hit was "On Treasure Island," and it appeared in three films, beginning with Swinging Johnny (1943). Ayres later became music director for Columbia Records, and worked on TV programs, including Perry Como and Hollywood Palace. He was struck by a car and killed while crossing a Las Vegas street.
