Book inscribed and signed: "For Sylvia Rosenberg -/with my very/best wishes./Mitchell Parish" on first blank flyleaf, 72p, 6½x9½, hardcover. His book, for those in love: poems by Mitchell Parish, The Richmond Organization, New York: 1965. According to the dust jacket notes, most of the poems in this volume appeared originally in Walter Winchell's column.SYLVIA ROSENBERG worked at ASCAP, for which Parish served a member of the Writers Advisory Council. MITCHELL PARISH (1900-1993), born Michael Hyman Peretz in Lithuania, wrote the lyrics to some of America's most memorable songs, including "Sweet Lorraine" (1928), "Stardust" (1929), "Sophisticated Lady" (1933), "Deep Purple" (1939), "Moonlight Serenade" (1939), "Stairway to the Stars" (1939), "Ruby" (1952; for the film, Ruby Gentry) and "Volare", as well as the Christmas standard, "Sleighride". Parish, who had begun his career as a staff writer for music publishers on Tin Pan Alley in 1919, wrote special material for vaudeville acts before making his mark with songs for the stage and screen. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1986. In original dust jacket, which is lightly creased. ½-inch tear at upper edge, chipped at corners. Soiled on verso. Signature page is lightly shaded at left edge, touching two words of inscription. Internally sound and fine condition.
