A photograph of the actress in her Golden Globe Nominated role as Nellie Forbush standing in front of another photograph of her in the same role, signed in red felt tip
Photograph signed: "Mitzi/Gaynor". B/w, 8x10. Depicted in her best-known role as Navy WAVE nurse Nellie Forbush, for which she was nominated for a 1958 Golden Globe for Best Actress, Musical or Comedy. Adapted from James A. Michener's Tales of the South Pacific, this musical was the long-awaited film version of Rodger's and Hammerstein's Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical. One of 1958's top grossing films, South Pacific starred Gaynor opposite Rossano Brazzi (as wealthy French planter Emile De Becque). The film won an Academy Award for Best Sound and was nominated for Oscars for Best Cinematography and Best Score. A professional dancer from age 12, Mitzi Gaynor (b. 1931), who starred in a series of film musicals beginning with My Blue Heaven (1950), is best known for her role as Nellie Forbush in the screen version of South Pacific (1958). Much of her best work was done on stage, however, where she sang and danced opposite such male legends as Bing Crosby, Donald O'Connor, Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly. Gaynor, who was a frequent TV guest, also starred in several specials of her own. Slightly creased. Fine condition.
