Gaynor (1931-2024), who starred in a series of film musicals beginning with My Blue
Heaven (1950), is best known for her role as Nellie Forbush in the screen version of
South Pacific (1958). Much of her best work was done on stage, however, where she sang
and danced opposite such male legends as Bing Crosby, Donald O'Connor, Frank
Sinatra and Gene Kelly. Gaynor, who was a frequent TV guest, also starred in several
