collector Saul Goodman. A rare signature.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Saul/Mona Barrie". B/w,
8x10. Collector's ink stamp on verso dates signature: October 13, 1937. English
stage and screen actress Mona Barrie (1909-1964) began her performing
career on Australian ballet and musical comedy stages. Moving to the US in 1934,
she made her film debut that year (Sleepers East) and her first Broadway
appearance in 1937. She appeared in more than 50 films, usually in second leads
and character roles. Her last credited role was in Strange Fascination
(1952). Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued
his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many
celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman
presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen.
