The former cloistered nun agrees to an interview, three years after publishing her memoir. A rare signature.
Autograph Letter signed: "Monica Baldwin", 5½x6¾. Kensington Close [London], 1952 December 10. On personal monogrammed letterhead to "Dear Miss Home", in full: "Thank you for a charming letter. Betty has rose spectacles; do not believe her. I should much like to meet you & shall be so pleased to tell you anything you may want to know. Yours very sincerely". Monica Baldwin (1893-1975), the niece of British Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin, spent 28 years as a cloistered Augustine nun (1914-1941), deciding after all those years that she "was no more suited to be a nun than an acrobat." In 1949, she published a memoir, I Leap Over the Wall, which described not only her life in the convent, but also her culture shock upon returning to a much changed world. She also published a novel, The Called and the Chosen (1957). Normal mailing fold. Corners clipped. Light surface creases. Slight tears on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
