MONICA DICKENS
Her thank you letter on a commemorative cachet for a charitable cause
Autograph Letter signed: "Monica Dickens", 6½x4 card. Special cachet honoring Famous People with her facsimile signature, accompanied by a matching stamp. Hyde Park Street, London, 1989 December 23. To Henry Murray, London, in full: "Thank you for sending the envelopes to Mr. Pick, who is returning them to you with my signature. Thank you very much for the donation. It is going to the Samaritans in Massachusetts, and is of course a tax-deductible gift to this non-profit organization. Yours sincerely". Newspaper clipping affixed in lower left. Monica Enid Dickens (1915-1992), the great granddaughter of famed novelist Charles Dickens, was expelled from the prestigious St. Paul's Girls School. Turning her back on the life of a debutante, she went to work as a cook, a nurse and a factory worker before undertaking a writing career. She wrote many nonfiction books about her experiences, and also authored three series of popular children's books. Her autobiography, An Open Book, was published in 1980. Fine condition.
