Monica Lewis (1922-2015) was an American jazz singer and film actress who was the youngest of three children. Her father, Leon, was a pianist and composer and her mother, Jessica, was a singer with the Chicago Opera Company. Sheplayed leading roles in films of the 1950s, including Excuse My Dust (1951), Affair with a Stranger(1953) and The D. I.(1957) and supporting roles thereafter, including Airport '77 and '79. She has had recurring roles in TV series, including Shotgun Slade (1959) and The Virginian (1965-1966). Also a singer, she has released several recordings in the traditional pop and jazz genres. Lewis appeared on the very first Ed Sullivan show (1948), and was the voice of Miss Chiquita Banana for 14 years. In her 2011 memoir “Hollywood Through My Eyes”, Lewis revealed that actor and future U.S. President Ronald Reagan had proposed to her but that she declined that marriage proposal.
