MOONSTRUCK MOVIE CAST: DANNY AIELLO and OLYMPIA DUKAKIS
Shown together in a scene from the 1987 film Moonstruck
Photograph signed: "Danny Aiello" and "Olympia/Dukakis", B/w 10x8. Stage, screen and television actor DANNY AIELLO (born in 1933) made his screen debut in Bang the Drum Slowly (1973) and went on, over the next 15 years, to play a succession of tough guys, cops, brutes, slobs and "ordinary guys" in a wide variety of movies, but he broke out of that mold when he portrayed Cher's fiancée in Moonstruck (1987). For his portrayal of a pizza parlor owner in Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing two years later, Aiello received a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination. He played Lee Harvey Oswald slayer Jack Ruby in a 1992 biopic. Aiello, who can sing, has done so in several films, and has released two record albums. He went on to become one of Hollywood's more prolific character actors. In addition to his screen work, Aiello has also appeared frequently on Broadway. Character actor OLYMPIA DUKAKIS (Born in 1931) won the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award and the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in 1987 for Moonstruck and was also named Outstanding Actress in a Feature Film for her performance in The Event (2003). The co-founder of Boston's renowned Charles Playhouse, Dukakis began her career on the stage before making her film debut in Lillith in 1964. Her other credits include Steel Magnolias (1989), Mighty Aphrodite (1995) and Picture Perfect (1997), and Dukakis, the cousin of 1988 presidential candidate Michael Dukakis, has also appeared in several made-for-TV movies, including the recent The Librarian: Quest for the Spear (2004), and miniseries, and she guest starred on TV shows from The Nurses (1962) to It's All Relative (2003).
