MORGANNA
Signed photograph of the Baseball's "Kissing Bandit" inscribed to a
fan.
Inscribed printed photograph signed in ink: "To/Sam./You/re/#1
with me./Kisses./Morganna". Color, 8x10 overall, image 7¼x8¾ (one surface).
Captioned in lower margin. Morganna (b. 1940), "the Kissing Bandit," retired
from baseball in 2001 after nearly three decades of leaping onto the field to
kiss major and minor league players. Attending a Cincinnati Reds game in
1971, she went onto the field on a bet and kissed Pete Rose. It was the first of
nearly two dozen big league parks she invaded with this purpose, usually dressed
in hot pants and a tight shirt. Her "victims" included Hall of Famers Cal Ripkin
Jr., Johnny Bench, Nolan Ryan and George Brett (who she bussed at the 1979
All-Star Game.) Buxomy Morganna parlayed her notoriety into a nude
pictorial in "Playboy" magazine, TV guest appearances on the late-night shows of
Johnny Carson and David Letterman, and lucrative contracts as an exotic
dancer. Of her encounter with Rose, she said, "I tell people my career
started with a bet and his ended with one." Fine condition.
