Morley Safer (1931-2016) joined CBS News in 1964 as a correspondent based in the
London bureau. He opened CBS News' Saigon bureau in 1965. In 1967, he was named
London bureau chief, a position he held for three years. In 1970, he left London to join 60
Minutes as a co-editor in New York. As a correspondent on the long-running news show,
Safer appeared for over 46 years. He won four Emmy Awards during his tenure on the
show, including a Lifetime Achievement Award. Just a week after announcing his
retirement, he passed away. Fine condition.
