MORRIS FISHBEIN. TLS: "Morris Fishbein", 1p, 8½x11. Chicago, Illinois, 1969 March 28. On his imprinted Morris Fishbein, M.D. letterhead to Mr. Danny Franklin, Sunnyslope, Arizona. In full: "I do appreciate your nice note of March 17, in which you have reviewed my activities, and in which you comment so favorably about the books. Thank you also for your good wishes. I am happy to send you an autographed photograph. Sincerely yours". Photograph not present. Morris Fishbein, M.D. (1889-1976) was editor of the "Journal of the American Medical Association" (JAMA) from 1924-1950. On June 21, 1937, Fishbein had been featured on the cover of "Time" magazine, and he protested in an inside article about FDR's plan to federalize the medical profession. Fishbein, as editor of American Medical Association publications, said that medicine "is practiced as an art and as a science, without any reference to hours of work or any fixed formula for its administration...." In 1970, the year after this letter, he endowed the Morris Fishbein Center for the study of history of science and medicine at the University of Chicago. Lightly creased with fold, not at signature. Paper clip impressions and stains at upper and lower left blank margins. Fine condition.
