MUHAMMAD ALI, AL SHARPTON and DON KING
Three famous African-Americans and family members, including Sharpton's daughters, signed this Trump Plaza boxing glove
Boxing Glove signed: "Muhammad Ali", "Don King", "Rev. Al Sharpton" "Dominique" "+ Ashley/Sharpton". Red 12-ounce Everlast boxing glove bearing printed logo of the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino, signed in black felt tip. Also signed by others, presumably more family members and friends. Glove was probably signed at the Larry Holmes - Mike Tyson heavyweight championship bout, held in Atlantic City on January 22, 1988. (Tyson retained his title, scoring the only knockout Holmes suffered in his entire career.) On Feb. 25, 1964, MUHAMMAD ALI (1942-2016), born Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. in Louisville, Kentucky, knocked out champion Sonny Liston in the seventh round in Miami Beach to win the World Heavyweight title. He was stripped of his title in 1967 for refusing military service on religious grounds. On Oct. 30, 1974, Ali KO'd George Foreman in the eighth round in Zaire to regain the title. Ali's three fights against rival champion Joe Frazier in the early 1970s were followed closely around the world. Leon Spinks became champ when he won a 15-round decision over Ali on Feb. 15, 1978 in Las Vegas but lost a rematch with Ali in New Orleans in another 15-round decision on Sept. 15, 1978. Ali retired as World Heavyweight Champion in 1979. He is the only three-time World Heavyweight Champion. Ali was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990. Beginning in 1974, DON KING (b. 1931) organized a series of lucrative title bouts for Muhammad Ali, including the "Rumble in the Jungle" (vs. George Foreman in Zaire) and the "Thrilla in Manilla" (vs. Joe Frazier in the Philippines). The key to King's success, beyond his flair for publicity, was his understanding of the money potential of pay per view and cable TV boxing contracts, which have earned millions for himself and clients including Mike Tyson and Sugar Ray Leonard. AL SHARPTON (b. 1954) is a Baptist minister, civil rights activist, talk show host and politician, outspoken in his critique of racial injustices in the US. An even greater magnet for controversy than Ali or King - one critic called him a "racial arsonist" - Sharpton has never feared to defend causes he believes in. Sharpton has run for the US Senate and for Mayor of New York, and sought the Democratic Presidential nomination in 2004. Sharpton was married to the former Kathy Jordan, previously a backup singer for James Brown, from 1980 to 2004. (The "Kathy" signing here with first name only might be her.) Their two daughters, Dominique and Ashley, have also signed. DOMINIQUE SHARPTON, a civil rights activist like her father, is membership director of his National Action Network. Fine condition.
