wishes - Muriel Humphrey". Color with overall reddish hue, 8x10 overall,
image 7½x8 (one surface). Muriel Buck Humphrey (1912-1998) had married
Hubert Humphrey in 1936. Her husband, who had been a U.S. Senator from
Minnesota since January 1949, was LBJ's Vice President in 1964, and the
Democratic Party's Presidential nominee in 1968, losing a close race to Richard
Nixon. After her husband, who was re-elected to the Senate in 1970, died in
office in 1978, the Governor of Minnesota appointed Mrs. Humphrey to fill the
vacancy. Serving from January 25, 1978-November 7, 1978, she was the only
woman in the Senate at the time. Fine condition.
