Field and Garner both starred as two sides of a love triangle in Murphy's Romance (1985). Murphy's Romance was nominated for two Oscars, including a Best Actor nomination for Garner. In 1965, FIELD, born in Pasadena, California in 1946, landed the coveted starring role on the TV series Gidget. The show lasted only one season, but Field had become popular with teen fans and in 1967 was given a second crack at a sitcom with The Flying Nun. In 1976, Field proved her mettle as an actress in the TV movie Sybil, winning an Emmy for her virtuoso performance as a woman suffering from multiple personalities stemming from childhood abuse. Field has starred in such winners as Norma Rae (1979), Places in the Heart (1984), Steel Magnolias (1989), Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) and Forrest Gump (1994). Field, nominated twice for the Academy Award for Best Actress, won both times: Norma Rae (1980) and Places in the Heart (1985). GARNER, born James Scott Bumgarner in Norman, Oklahoma in 1928, starred as Bret Maverick in the first four seasons of the TV series Maverick (1957-1961) and a short-lived sequel (1981-1982). Garner also starred in The Rockford Files (1974-1980). Appearing frequently in films, he was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for Murphy's Romance (1985). Roles in Space Cowboys (2000) and Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (2002) showed Garner going strong in the new millennium. In 2003, after the sudden death of series star John Ritter (Paul Hennessey), Garner joined the cast of 8 Simple Rules...for Dating My Teenage Daughter (2003-2005), playing the role of Jim Hennessey, Paul's father.
