MURRAY R. BENEDICT. ALS: "Murray R. Benedict", 1p, 6x10. Berkeley, California, 1970 January 11. To "Dear Danny". In full: "This is in reply to your letter of December 31. I am happy to send along for your collection an autographed picture as requested. Unfortunately it's not a very recent one as I have not had a real photograph taken for quite a number of years. I hope this one will do. Now you seem to know quite a lot about me but I don't know much about you. Won't you write and tell me who you are, what you are doing, how old you are and so on? How did you come to write to me when there are so many more important people you might have asked? With all good wishes, Sincerely". Enclosure not present. Murray Reed Benedict, an agricultural economist and author, joined the staff at the University of California, Berkeley in 1931, and he served as the Acting Director of the Giannini Foundation of Agricultural Economics from May 1936-October 1937 and November 1940-December 1941. In 1941, Benedict was also President of the American Agricultural Economics Association (AAEA), and he was later (1962) elected a Fellow in the American Farm Economic Association. Benedict's writings include the book, Farm Policies of the United States, 1790-1950: A Study of the Origins and Development, and he contributed a number of articles to the "Journal of Farm Economics". Lightly creased with fold, not at signature. Fine condition.
