MY FELLOW AMERICANS CAST: JAMES GARNER and LAUREN BACALL

Photograph signed: "Lauren Bacall", "James Garner". B/w, 10x8. Captioned movie still from My Fellow Americans (1996). In this film comedy, James Garner and Jack Lemmon (also shown) play ex-Presidents and bitter rivals, Garner a liberal Democrat, Lemmon a conservative Republican. They are forced to work together - despite nonstop argument - to foil the plan of their ruthless successor (played by Dan Aykroyd) to cover up a scandal by murdering them. Lauren Bacall plays Lemmon's long-suffering spouse. In the end, the rivals decide to form a joint ticket, but of course can't decide who will head it. JAMES GARNER (b. 1928) starred as Bret Maverick in the first four seasons of the TV series Maverick (1957-1961) and a short-lived sequel (1981-1982). Garner also starred in The Rockford Files (1974-1980). Appearing frequently in films, he was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for Murphy's Romance (1985). Roles in Space Cowboys (2000) and Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (2002) showed Garner going strong in the new millennium. From the time Bacall made her Hollywood debut in Hawks' To Have and Have Not (1944) with Humphrey Bogart, both film critics and moviegoers fell in love with the beauty with the throaty voice. Lauded as the most sensational newcomer of the year, LAUREN BACALL (1924-2014) found both fame and love, falling in love and marrying Bogie, with whom she would star in three more films. After his death in 1957, Bacall made Designing Women (1957) and The Gift of Love (1958), but virtually dropped out of sight until 1970, when she made a triumphant comeback in the stage production of Applause. Bacall's later films include Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Shootist (1976) and The Fan (1981). The actress was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996), winning a Golden Globe in the same category. Their similarly talented co-star, Jack Lemmon, died in 2001. Fine condition.
