NAN GREY
Youthful image, looking over her shoulder, inscribed in person to collector
Saul Goodman
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Saul -/Nan Grey". B/w, 8x10.
Collector's ink stamp on verso dates signature: September 13, 1941. Nan
Grey (1918-1993) had a brief but busy film career in the 1930s. In
1936 alone, she appeared in The Sea Spoilers with John Wayne, Next
Time We Love with Jimmy Stewart, Three Smart Girls with Deanna
Durbin, and Dracula's Daughter (as victim of Gloria Holden). She remained
on the radio soap opera Those We Love until 1945. From 1950 until her
death, she was married to singer Frankie Laine. She invented a cosmetic
mirror for near-sighted people, selling one to Princess Grace of Monaco. Saul
Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of
film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While
other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with
snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Lightly creased.
Otherwise, fine condition.
