In full: "Dear Mr. Mank, I am enclosing a check for $1.00 for a membership in your (fan) club. I feel honored to join. Also I am sending under separate cover, three of my photographs, which I have autographed as you have wished. Thank you for very kind wishes for my success and I do hope you will like and enjoy King's Row. Sincerely". Lightly toned. Corners rounded. Original envelope included. Otherwise, fine condition. (2) Check secretarially signed: "Nancy Coleman/by Mrs. Charles S. Coleman" in black ink. 8x3. December 3, 1941. Check no. 116 drawn from the account of Nancy Coleman at Bank of America in Burbank, California. Payable for $1.00 to Chaw Mank. Lightly toned. Vertical crease down center. Otherwise, fine condition. These items come from the estate of Charles "Chaw" Mank Jr. (1902-1985), noted songwriter, author, bandleader, record producer, sheet music publisher, psychic, radio personality, silent movie theater organist, world champion pen pal, inveterate collector and Hollywood/music fan club pioneer. Nancy Coleman (1912-2000) had prominent roles in films of the 1940s, including King's Row, The Gay Sisters and Edge of Darkness (1943), In Our Times (1944) and Mourning Becomes Electra (1947). She was seen frequently on the TV playhouses of the 1950s, and occasionally in series thereafter. She portrayed Abigail Brooks Adams in The Adams Chronicles and Sister Mary Joel on Ryan's Hope in 1976.
