Extremely rare signature in black ink from the celebrated and
controversial Scottish novelist and poet
Signature: "Naomi Mitchison", in black ink, 2¼x¾ affixed to

Naomi Mitchison (1897-1999) wrote over 90 books, being called the doyenne
of Scottish literature. Arguably her most popular publication was
The Corn King and the Spring Queen, though she drew even more
attention with controversial works like We Have Been Warned,
which discussed sex, rape, and abortion. Other works from Mitchison
covered historical fiction, science fiction, and travelogue. Mitchison was
also an activist, supporting several liberal, left wing causes in addition to be
a feminist, being a major supporter of birth control for females. Mitchison
continued to write into her 90's, eventually being appointed a CBE for her
literary works, though she never used a title. Edges irregular on signature and
backing card. Slight surface creases. Fine condition.
